June 2008 RV Trip

We began our 2nd big RV trip in early June, 2008. We left Concord and headed to Edinburg, VA where we spent 2 nights. It was a neat area and Sal's restaurant within walking distance was worth the trip!!!

We then went to Windsor, NY where we only stayed 1 night. Although the campground was highly rated, we were not impressed. It did not help that we arrived near dark and we had to travel on 7.5 miles of dirt roads to reach the campground. For the 1st hour we had no electricity due to the fact that one of us had accidentally hit the battery cut off switch! Of course being that far removed from civilization, we had no cell phone reception which bothered Buzz, and no cable or tv reception which caused Cindy to miss The Bachelorette!!! We left EARLY the next morning and headed to VT.

We stayed at a great campground in Bennington, VT. It was by a lake with a lighted fountain which made for lots of relaxing. We met lots of people there and enjoyed exploring the area. We enjoyed the area so much that we want to return and spend more time there.

Then it was time to head to NH to visit Derek, Kristine and Clark. They had just moved into their new home and we were anxious to see them and their new home, which is very lovely. We were at a campground at Weir's Beach just 7 miles from their house. The campground has lots of seasonal residents and we made friends with a couple from Rhode Island and hope to see them again in October.

While in the lakes region of NH we got to experience one of their heat waves. The temps were in the mid 90's which did not suit Cindy well at all! (and she likes the beach?) We did enjoy going to the Gilford town beach with Clark although we do not know how he could stand that COLD water. Cindy SAYS she would have gone in if she had on a swimsuit, but Buzz absolutely would not have gotten wet! Kristine was brave enough to go under water though!!

We tried to escape the heat and took a drive on the Kancamagus Highway through the White Mountains. We also ventured up to Mt. Washington, home of the worst weather in the world. The avg. daily temp is 27 and winds are hurricane strength over 100 days a year. BUT it was in the mid 60's and only a little windy the day we were there. No luck for getting cool! And how do these folks survive without AC???

Also while at Weirs Beach we got to experience the beginning of Bike Week. Now we get to experience Harley week and Bike Fest at the coast of SC, but this was a new experience. It is the 3rd largest bike week in the US. Our campground was the closet one to the rally and we were glad to leave before mid-week. (Buzz kind of wanted to stay once he heard the campground became adults only due to the topless women running around, but Cindy outvoted him and anyway the campground was too full for us to stay :( !!!!

After 10 nights at Weirs Beach, we headed south to Derry, NH where we enjoyed seeing Buzz's Air Force buddy, Howie. We were able to stay only about 5 miles from his house and enjoyed his hospitality. His house overlooks a beautiful lake we enjoyed having him and Leslie prepare a meal for us. While they were at work, we had time to drive to the NH coast which we loved seeing. Not the usual beach for us but so beautiful in other ways. We would also like to visit this area again, too!

The next 2 nights were spent in Mt. Pocono, PA. We just spent time relaxing and enjoying the beautiful Pocono Mountains before heading on to Staunton, VA for a night. This too was a nice place in the Shenandoah Valley and we want to return here as well.

We made sure to get back to Davidson, NC on June 21 to attend Stan and Sandy Fulmer's annual Tiki Hut party. We set up our motorhome on their property and enjoyed the biggest and best party of the year! We did decide we were either old or tired or both as we had to leave the fun earlier than last year and retreat to our "home." (It was probably good that we were not there for the Friday night warm-up party! Don't think we could have done that 2 nights in a row!)

For those of you who remember our "faux pas" of driving the RV towing the car through downtown Washington, DC on our last trip, you will be glad to know we skipped that adventure this trip!! We decided instead to go through a Dunkin Donuts drive thru!! (Actually we were trying to get to the diesel fuel pumps and got in this lane by mistake. Talk about the looks we got! But we had inches to spare, so all was well!

By Sunday, June 22 we were back in Concord and then on to Carolina Shores. We hope to take another trip to NH and perhaps back through Kentucky (yeah, out of the way but so what?) in early October. Of course, we will always accept donations for diesel fuel if you want to read about more of our adventures!

Come see us in Carolina Shores, NC!
